Hi there, congrats on the upcoming move. I hope you love living in NYC!
Before NYC I spent the majority of my life in Los Angeles, and while both cities are massive, they couldn’t be more different — but that was exactly what I was looking for. If you approach NYC with the understanding that it can be a tough place to live and the belief that it’s worth toughing it out, you’ll do just fine. Adaptation is easiest if you keep an open mind.
Also, give yourself time to settle into the city and find your rhythm. NYC is a lot to take in and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Create routines. Find good people and hang out with them. Find the places in the city that feel like little islands of zen for you — it might be a museum, it might be Grand Central Terminal, it all depends on you.
Above all, stay open, positive and aware that NYC will do its best to test your patience at times. Like, REALLY test you. Believe me.
Oh, and make sure you have a legit winter coat. I didn’t actually own one before I moved here. That was a mistake.
